OTR

Our bread journey began well before we decided to open in Bangkok; where we opened the first location in 2016. We spoke with OTR about the difficult history and the promising future for Holey Bakery.

With more than seven years in the business, Holey Artisan Bakery specialises in one thing and one thing only: bread menu that makes you go “Holey sh*it, this is good.” We strongly recommend the the Cubano Panino, made using smoked ham, all-belly porchetta, dry cured bacon, pickles, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese hot-pressed between two Sourdough panini.

What is it: A bakery-cafe that’s earned quite the following in Bangkok for its precision-crafted sourdough loaves, buttery croissants and serious sandwich game. With its flagship on Sukhumvit Soi 31 and additional branches in Suan Phlu and Ruam Rudee, Holey brings the bakery-craft to your lunch plate.

Why we love it: Bread is the hero here – house sourdough and baguettes get the star treatment, enabling sandwich fillings to shine. Think smoked salmon and fried egg on crisp artisanal bread or a hearty panini pressed with premium ham, cheese and house-fermented pickles. These are the kinds of sandwiches where the bread whispers ‘I’ve been nurtured for 48 hours’ and the filling adds the flourish.

Holey Artisan Bakery is the kind of place that feels like a warm hug in bread form — the ultimate comfort spot for carb lovers in Bangkok. Founded by a husband-and-wife duo who took their love of real, honest-to-goodness sourdough to heart, this gem has become legendary for its crusty, chewy loaves that are nothing short of addictive.

Step inside and you’ll be hit with that glorious aroma of freshly baked bread — a scent that can stop you dead in your tracks and instantly lift your spirits. Their sourdough is the crown jewel, boasting a perfect tang and crust that snaps with satisfying crunch. But don’t stop there: their buttery croissants, flaky danishes, and rustic rye loaves are just as worthy of a standing ovation.

Whether you’re grabbing a loaf to take home or settling in with a strong coffee and a flaky pastry (or an incredible sandwich), Holey Artisan Bakery knows how to make every bite count. It’s no wonder this bakery has earned a cult following — once you try it, you’ll be hooked faster than you can say “pass the butter!”

The cult following of Holey Artisan Bakery can tell you all about the amazing breads they bake fresh there, but one thing you absolutely cannot miss is their selection of cookies. Priced more than fair and paired well with a coffee, it’s great for just a pick-me-up, or a sweet ending to brunch. Highlights include their vanilla lemon meringue cookie, “Supreme Cookie,” with oats, pecans, cranberries, dark chocolate, and honey, and the triple chocolate cookie they make with Belgian chocolates and a dash of espresso.
